About Daily Word
A new five-letter word every day, the same word for everyone, and six guesses to find it. Type a word and each letter tells you something: green means right letter in the right place, amber means the letter is in the word but somewhere else, grey means it is not in the word at all. The whole game is about spending your early guesses on information rather than on hope — a first guess of CRANE or SLATE eliminates far more of the dictionary than a lucky stab does. It takes three minutes, it resets at midnight UTC, and it is the same puzzle your friends are playing, which is the entire reason it is worth sharing. Finish, and you get the spoiler-free emoji grid to post: the shape of how you got there, with none of the letters. A streak counter keeps score across days, and yesterday's answer is always one tap away.

Questions
What is the best first word for a daily word game?
Something with common letters and no repeats. CRANE, SLATE, ROAST and AUDIO are all strong openers because they test five of the most frequent letters at once. The goal of guess one is never to win — it is to eliminate half the dictionary.
Does everyone get the same word?
Yes. The word is chosen from the day itself, so every player in the world is solving the same puzzle until it rolls over at midnight UTC. That is what makes the shared grid mean anything.
What do the colours mean?
Green: the right letter in the right position. Amber: that letter is in the word, but not there. Grey: that letter is not in the word at all. A letter that appears twice in your guess but once in the answer will show one colour and one grey.
How does the streak work?
Solve the word and your streak goes up by one. Miss a day and it resets to zero. Streaks are kept on your device for guests; make a player account and they follow you to any browser you sign in on.
